Maui Activities

When Corban and I get to go on trips just the two of us, we tend to be activity maximalists, so naturally on our trip to Maui we did ALL of the things. We did a lot of research before this trip, spreadsheet and all and it is SO worth it to plan like this. Spreadsheets for planning trips are highly recommended!

Sail Trilogy: Read all the details here, it was such an incredible experience that it got its own dedicated blog post! The short of it is that this was our favorite single activity we did. Felt so luxurious, the best snorkeling, whales, and dolphins. Oh my!

Road to Hana: Bring your America the Beautiful pass or go on a federal holiday for free. Because we went on a holiday hardly anyone was there so that was a huge win for us. We saw the 7 sacred pools, did the waterfall hike at the end and saw red and black sand beaches. It is the rainy side of the island and so expect to be drenched by the end no matter what season!

Note if you want to go to THE black sand beach, you need reservations.

Kula Botanical Garden: A fun fact about us, we love a good botanical garden and we stopped here when we had some time before our farm dinner started. This place is beautiful but it is $15/adult and it’s about 8 acres total. You can pay extra to feed the koi fish which of course Corban needed to experience, it was hilarious. They have rainbow eucalyptus trees which were beautiful and smelled amazing and SO MANY tropical flowers in one place!

Haleakalā: Sunrise tickets are impossible to get these days, we tried multiple times over many days and could never get it. We decided to go for sunset, and you still need to get there early for parking but sunset was amazing! You need a day pass or bring your America the Beautiful pass like we get every year to enter for free. Make sure you read about Haleakala first before you go, it’s a steep drive with lots of people and a lot of switchbacks. The stars you can see after the sunset are also incredible and on this night we actually ended up seeing and filming a proposal which was such a fun little experience for me!

Snorkeling : Check this link for the snorkel report for each day at all of the different beaches! We did a lot of snorkeling and finally bought a GoPro so we could get these pics and no regrets! We snorkeled all over Maui but our favorite other than on the Sail Trilogy trip, was Honolua Bay. Fun fact, it’s the backup spot for when Moloka’i is too windy is but check first because it can get muddy!

ʻĪao Valley State Monument: A roughly half mile walk on a paved path with amazing views will get you to a great viewpoint for the ʻIao Needle. Parking is $10 and then $5 per person to get in.

Moku Roots Farm Dinner: The suggested price of this is $55 for non residents and man was it worth it! The dinner was four courses, the food was incredible and all plant based with little tables around this deck and patio to make little intimate nooks for couples/groups as needed. But the experience and the sunset was even better than the food.
